SMA AWARENESS MONTH

In order to raise awareness about SMA disease; August has been declared as "SMA Awareness Month". Early diagnosis and treatment are very important in SMA, which is among the rare diseases.

In our country, SMA screening has been included in the Newborn Screening Program in May 2022 so that patients can be diagnosed at an early stage and their treatments can be started.

In addition, screening prospective mothers and fathers with the SMA carrier test and planning pregnancies with the PGT method if both couples are carriers is an important step to reduce the incidence of the disease in the society.
