28 FEBRUARY RARE DISEASES DAY

Rare diseases are health problems of which awareness is generally limited due to their rarity in society, but have a deep impact on individuals and their families struggling with these diseases. It is estimated that approximately 300 million people worldwide and approximately 8 million people in Turkey are living with a rare disease. These individuals and their families face difficulties such as early diagnosis, access to correct treatment and inadequacy of social support mechanisms.

Studies on rare diseases are supported by international regulations such as the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. These documents promise to guarantee that all individuals have access to health, education and social rights without discrimination. In Turkey, the right to health care is guaranteed by Article 56 of the Constitution and the relevant articles of the Health Services Basic Law. We hope that steps will be taken to ensure that he can access all his rights equally and fairly.
