Ministry of Health Announced that Gene Therapy Will Begin in SMA.

Making a statement after the cabinet meeting held yesterday, Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca said that gene therapy will begin in SMA and rare cases are available in Istanbul. He made a statement that a hospital was established for the treatment of diseases.

Fahrettin Koca, who also stated in the statement that the Scientific Board has determined who can be applied to gene therapy, stated that planning has been made for the treatment that will be implemented soon.

Following the announcement that Risdiplam will be included in the scope of reimbursement, where no public development has been recorded yet and the uncertainty in the criteria continues, we also find the new statement regarding gene therapy promising. However, we would like to draw attention to the importance of implementing both plans as soon as possible for SMA patients who are racing against time.
