SMA Awareness Seminar

In order to raise awareness and increase public consciousness about rare diseases and their consequences, this month's seminar focused on "SMA Disease".

The seminar, organized by Istanbul Esenler Municipality, Esenler Medipol University Hospital, the Rare Diseases Network, and the SMA Disease Struggle Association, began with a speech by Specialist Dr. Ali ORUÇ. Following the explanation of the genetic causes, symptoms, types, course of the disease, and treatment methods of SMA disease, our association representative Ece SOYER DEMİR shared a patient story; He spoke about the difficulties faced by families. Ali Soyer, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association for Combating SMA Disease, spoke about the association's activities and future plans. He emphasized that SMA disease is detectable and preventable through carrier screening, and stressed that conducting carrier screening is our responsibility to the state, the nation, and future generations.
